What is Swayam?

SWAYAM is a program launched by the Government of India to accomplish the three central goals of the Education Policy: accessibility, fairness, and excellence. The goal of this project is to make the greatest learning and teaching tools available to everyone, especially the most underprivileged.

SWAYAM attempts to bridge that development divide for individuals who have been left behind by the digital revolution and are unable to participate in the information age.

The Need for Swayam

Smartphone devices, the World Wide Web, and the widespread use of interactive media have all altered norms in practically every sector, including academia. The potential of online learning has been demonstrated more now than ever during the pandemic. It provides versatility, range, and a plethora of alternatives. Massive Open Online Courses, or MOOCs, have transformed the field of inexpensive e-learning.

Features of the Swayam Scheme

This is accomplished by the use of an interface that enables for the broadcasting of all classroom-taught programs from Class 9 through post-graduation to be accessible by anybody, wherever, at any moment. All of the classes are interactive, created by the greatest professors in the nation, and are open to any student at no cost. And over 1,000 highly selected academics and instructors from throughout the nation helped to create the programs.

SWAYAM programs are organized into four sections: (1) video lectures, (2) specifically designed literature that may be downloaded/printed, (3) self-assessment exams via tests and quizzes, and (4) interactive discussion forums for clarification. Audio-video and multi-media, as well as cutting-edge pedagogy/technology, have been used to enhance the learning process.

Programs provided via SWAYAM are free to students; but, students who desire a SWAYAM certification must enrol for the final standardized tests, which cost extra, and appear in person at selected locations on specific days. Certification qualifications will be stated on the course website, and students will get certifications only if this condition is met. Universities/colleges that accept credit transfer for these courses may utilize the grades/certificates earned in such programs to do so.
