It may come as a surprise for many but the top philanthropist of the world is not a western or European business giant but India’s Jamsetji Tata. Jamsetji Tata, a well-known Indian entrepreneur and the founder of Tata Sons, ranks top on the list of philanthropists, with pledges and contributions totaling in excess of $ 102 billion. 

Tata founded his business dynasty in the 1870s with the founding of Central India Spinning Weaving and Manufacturing Company and established Tata Trusts with the 1892 formation of the JN Tata Endowment, particularly focused on higher healthcare and education. The list is a rating of the world’s most giving persons throughout the last century, and it is in its first year. Tata embarked on his first trip in 1892.
