What Is ECNR In Passport

Must read

ECNR Passport

Designated Indian passport holders are required under the Emigration Act of 1983 to get an Emigration Clearance from the ‘Protector of Emigrants’ office prior to going to such nations. ECR (Emigration Check Required) permits are essential for Indians who want to work in specific countries. Approved passport holders will be needed to get an Emigration Clearance from the Office of the Protector of Emigrants before going to select countries (POE).

For passports obtained prior to January 2007, when there is no notation in the passport, it is an ECR passport. If a passport issued later than January 2007 has no markings, it is a Non-ECR or Emigration Check Not Required Passport.
